Welcome! Please introduce yourself

Hey everyone,

I’m Collins Wagima, a self taught developer from Uganda . I graduated in 2024 from medical school (GULU COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES) ,clinician by profession and have since worked for 2 years.

Currently looking in the direction of Health informatics for a career thus hoping to have a deeper understanding of fullstack and UI design.

I got to know about Open MRS through @reagan who played a vital role in making me see the vast contributions towards the Ugandan Health sector open MRS community is doing ,which inspired me to want to be apart of .

I have experience in frontend development, particularly with JavaScript and React.js, also acquainted kowledge about Java ,springboot and hibernate with a basic foundational understanding in backend technologies such as Node.js ,MONGO DB and MySQL. I also do have a basic understanding of data Structures and Algorithms.

I’m ready to showcase my skills by contributing to various different projects and teams, learning new things, and gaining exposure that will help me build my career and target even bigger opportunities in shaping and contributing to healthcare service.

Looking forward to networking and collaborating with fellow contributors!

Best regards, Collins

I’m Anushka Jha, a final-year B.Tech student with experience in Java, Python, and MERN Stack. I’m preparing early for Google Summer of Code 2026 and OpenMRS is my top choice because of its mission and the strong engineering culture in this community.

I’ve already started exploring the codebase and setting up my development environment. My next goal is to pick my first beginner-friendly issue and make a meaningful contribution this month.

If there are any recommended modules, starter issues, or documentation areas that need improvement, I would love guidance. Excited to learn, collaborate, and contribute consistently to OpenMRS.

Greetings from Moldova! Name’s Serg.

I used to be a semi-senior Java backender back in the day. Worked mainly with Spring Boot in FinTech projects, but touched many different technologies over my 6-year career.

Then I took a 3-year sabbatical to focus on my wellbeing and writing ideas. I traveled a little, quit smoking by following a self-devised approach, published a book and handed another to my editor. Now, the only burnt out thing about me is my budget, so I’m returning to the field and gradually realizing how rusty my skills are.

I don’t feel much more confident after getting OCP 21, because real-life challenges are nothing like checking the right answer in a test. Same with solving problems on LeetCode and reading manuals. It’s all cool stuff, but come on, I want to feel alive, included, and do something real.

So here I am, adjusting my strategy. Community work is the best way to catch up, be useful to others, build a fancy portfolio etc. Will you allow me to participate and make a contribution, please, please?

I’ll explore the infrastructure, read the “Getting Started“ guide, figure out how to match with a mentor. Gonna try to be as autonomous as possible, but if anyone wants to step in and offer some guidance, I’ll be grateful of course. Also, I heard there is a slack space?

Cheers!

Could someone please:

  1. Grant me JIRA access, and
  2. Suggest a good beginner-friendly issue to start with?
