Hello GSoC Contributors,
We are currently in the last week of the coding period for GSoC 2024. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to the OpenMRS community. This is a reminder about the deadlines for final GSoC evaluations.
Important Dates:
- August 19 - 26: GSoC contributors submit their final work product and their final mentor evaluation.
- August 26 - September 2: Mentors submit final GSoC contributor evaluations.
Final Submission Guidelines
GSoC contributors are required to complete all of the following requirements before mentors begin their evaluations on August 26, 2024:
- Video Presentation of Your Project
- Single Shareable Document with Your Project Work
- Final Presentation Talk Post
- Updated Documentation and Related Wiki Pages
- Jira Tickets for Future Work/Improvements
- Submit the Evaluation Form in the GSoC Dashboard
Below are detailed explanations for each requirement:
-
Video Presentation of Your Project
We require students to record a short (5-minute maximum) video that describes and demonstrates the project you’ve been working on. This video should provide a quick overview of your project to share with the OpenMRS community and others.
The video should ideally include an overview of the product you’ve developed, a demo of the work you’ve completed, and what remains to be done in the final stages of the GSoC program. You can upload your video to YouTube or another platform and share the link with us.
For inspiration, check out some of last year’s presentations:

Prepare a Single Shareable Document with Your Project Work (Final Blog Post)
In the final evaluation, you will be asked to provide a document link showcasing the work you’ve done during the program. To do this, create a new blog post using the provided format and use it as your final link in the evaluation. This link will not be editable after submitting the evaluation, as it will be the main document linked to your project in the GSoC results. Share your link with your mentor before submitting your evaluation to ensure everything is in order.
Here are some examples from past years:
You can find the template here: Final Blog Post Template.
-
Final Presentation Talk Post
Create a new thread on Talk with the title ‘GSoC 2024 - Project Title - Final Presentation’ and post a summary of your project. Use the same format as in the final blog post. Make sure to tag it with #gsoc2024-finaleval and gsoc2024.
Some examples for reference:
-
Updated Documentation and Related Wiki Pages
Update all relevant documentation, such as developer guides, user guides, and GitHub repository README files. Be sure to update your project wiki page and link it to the OpenMRS GSoC 2024 Wiki.
-
Create Jira Tickets for Future Work/Improvements
If there is any remaining work or potential future improvements for your project, create Jira tickets for those tasks and link them to a Jira epic. This will help maintain the momentum you’ve built with your project.
-
Submit the Evaluation Form in the GSoC Dashboard
Finally, fill out and submit the evaluation form in the GSoC dashboard, which will open on August 19. You can view some example questions that may be asked during the final evaluation here. As mentioned earlier, use your final blog post as the "link to the work you did during GSoC this year.”
The official deadline to submit the final evaluation is August 26, 2024. However, we highly recommend completing tasks 1-5 as early as possible so that mentors have time to provide feedback for improving your final submission.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need any clarification. Thank you, and good luck with your final evaluation!
