Date of Birth entry slow/impractical on tablets

We are using android tablets, and the date picker in the registration screen forces the user to scroll to the correct year and month and day.

Having the option to simply type MMDDYYYY would be way faster, is there any way to achieve this?

No, just the OpenMRS Android client.

The cumbersome graphical date picker only appears on Android tablets, on desktops date can be easily input as DDMMYYYY. Would really appreciate a solution on this.
