I’m Cabrini, and I’ll be starting my postgraduate studies in Informatics in Germany soon. I have some experience with Java, full-stack development (JavaScript, React, Groovy), and SQL, plus a bit of Python and DevOps.
I’m still quite new to open source, but I’m really interested in strengthening my fundamentals (like data structures & algorithms) and also exploring areas like AI. I’m particularly interested in contributing to OpenMRS since I find the mission really meaningful. Being able to work on something that actually helps people is a big motivation for me.
I’d love to connect, learn, and collaborate with others here. Feel free to reach out!! I’m always happy to chat
Hi everyone,
My name is Kumari Anamika Shrivastava, and I am a BCA 2nd-year student from India.
I have experience in Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and SQL.
I am interested in contributing to GSoC 2026 with OpenMRS, specifically the Smart Notification Features project.

Hi, I’m Sadan Seraj from India, MCA student at Integral University. I have React.js, Node.js and REST API experience from a Software Developer Internship. I’m interested in the Form Engine Error Handling Project. Can someone guide me to a good first issue?
Welcome @eric_herman , to the openmrs, to get started and to know more about the community, you can get started over here. Please feel free to ask where you need help
Hello @sumitkun ! I am also a GSoC participant that has decided to participate this year.
I have some modules I can recommend you work /get accommodated with ( for easier understanding ) but it depends on what project proposal u decide to tackle.I will wait for your reply and try to provide you with proper guidance. The time is short so I wish you luck.
P.S. look for requirements: e.g. 3 PR reviews minimum . Feel free to refer this to any friends you have that are participating. And if anyone stumbles upon this, same principal applies . More then happy to help! Don`t forget to tag me.
Hi, I am a GSoC 2026 applicant planning to work on the Improved Appointments Calendar project. I have been actively reviewing PRs, studying the codebase, and I am assigned to issue O3-5556. Unfortunately my GitHub account is facing a forking restriction that I have reported to GitHub support 3 days ago but not yet resolved. I would like to ask if there is any way I can still contribute before the deadline tomorrow. My OpenMRS ID is gayanslp.
I’m Sumit, a final-year student at IIT (BHU), Varanasi, pursuing Ceramic Engineering. Alongside my academics, I have developed a strong interest in software development, especially full-stack web development. I have experience working with React, Tailwind CSS, JavaScript, and C++, and I am currently improving my problem-solving skills through Data Structures and Algorithms.
I’m excited to start contributing to OpenMRS and preparing for GSoC.I have already explored the codebase and am currently setting up the development environment
I would really appreciate any guidance from the community on getting started and contributing effectively. Looking forward to learning and collaborating with you all!
Hi everyone!
I’m Jaindu Sanketh from Sri Lanka. I’m excited to contribute to OpenMRS, specifically the GSoC 2026 project ‘Integrate O3 with the Authentication module’. I have experience with Java, TypeScript, and React, and I’ve already started exploring the openmrs-esm-core and the Authentication module to understand the MFA flow. Looking forward to connecting with the community and @Jayasanka Weerasinghe!
Also, apart from the issues listed on Jira, if you find any new issues that dont have an existing ticket for them, you can create a new ticket, have discussions and raise a pr for that
My name is Muralikrishna, I’m a backend developer from Hyderabad, India. I found out about GSoC 2026 through OpenMRS and I’m interested in the Extend Audit Log Module project.
A little about me — I work as a Java and Spring Boot developer. In my current job I built an audit logging system from scratch. It records who created, updated or deleted data, who can view the logs, and lets admins filter and export the records. So when I read the description of this project, I already knew what problem it was talking about.
The part that interests me most is the “read auditing” feature — tracking who just viewed a patient record, not just who changed it. I haven’t implemented that before but I understand why it’s needed and I want to learn how to build it properly.
My technical skills: Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, Hibernate, REST APIs, Spring Security.
What I’ve done so far:
Registered as a GSoC 2026 contributor
Created my OpenMRS ID and requested wiki/JIRA access
Joined Slack and been following the discussions
Set up OpenMRS locally and got it running
I know the deadline is close and I’m moving as fast as I can. I would really appreciate any advice from @ManojManoj Rathnapriya or @Wikum Weerakutti on what small contribution I can make before the deadline.
Happy to be here and looking forward to learning from this community.
It’s great to see your experience with building audit logging systems — especially around tracking create/update/delete actions. Your mention of “read auditing” is really interesting, I was also thinking about how tracking view-level access could be implemented efficiently without adding too much overhead.
I’m currently contributing to OpenMRS core and working on a small PR related to improving file handling utilities. I’m also exploring areas where I can contribute further, possibly around backend improvements.
Looking forward to learning from your approach and discussions around the audit log module!
Hi, thank you for the warm welcome! It’s great to connect with someone also working on backend improvements. The read auditing part is indeed the most interesting challenge — tracking view access without impacting performance is something I’m looking forward to figuring out during the project. Good luck with your PR on file handling utilities, would love to see how that goes. Looking forward to learning together!
I’m Shubhangi, a CS student (with Specialisation in CyberSecurity ) from India. I’ve been exploring OpenMRS for the past few months and I’m applying for GSoC 2026 for the “Integrate O3 with the Authentication Module” project mentored by @Jayasanka.
I’ve been going through the authentication module codebase and have opened a few PRs so far, mostly around test coverage and small fixes I found while reading through the code.
Looking forward to being part of this community and learning from everyone here!
Hi everyone, I’m Hassan. I am a 4th-year medical student based in Lagos and navigating my clinical rotations while also exploring digital health tools and their infrastructure.
On the technical side, I have foundational web skills (HTML, CSS, basic JavaScript) and have been working on a Python-based anomaly detection tool for outbreak surveillance. However, I am a complete beginner when it comes to navigating OpenMRS codebase.
I am very interested in participating in GSoC 2026. While I am improving on my frontend skills, I want to provide immediate value where my clinical background is strongest. I would love to help the O3 team by rigorously testing the UI/UX from a clinician’s perspective, mapping out patient workflows, and improving the documentation or user guides.
Could a mentor point me toward a beginner-friendly documentation issue, or a specific openmrs-esm frontend module that needs some workflow testing, QA or improvement?
Hi everyone, I’m Ranidu Nethma from Sri Lanka, BIT 2nd year student passionate about full-stack development, especially with Java, Spring, React and Typescript. Happy to join OpenMRS and excited to contribute!
I’m Waris Amir, currently working as a Java Full Stack Developer , with ~1.5 years of experience in Spring Boot, Hibernate, MySQL, React, and TypeScript. I’ve worked on production systems involving secure APIs, RBAC, and real-time workflows, including implementing authentication flows using Azure MSAL and token-based systems.
I’m primarily interested in contributing to the Service Queues project, where I’d like to improve UI responsiveness, API performance, and overall workflow reliability.
Additionally, I’m also exploring the Authentication module integration, as it aligns closely with my experience in RBAC and authentication systems, and I’d be happy to contribute there as well.
I’m currently going through the codebase and would appreciate guidance on:
Relevant issues or JIRA tickets
Good first contributions for these areas
Looking forward to contributing and collaborating with the community!
Hi, I’m Jack. I have 5 years of experience as a software developer. I work with React and Next.js on the frontend, and Java, JavaScript, Python, and C++ on the backend. I’m happy to start contributing to OpenMRS!
