Welcome! Please introduce yourself

Hello to everyone, I am Michele, an italian guy who wants to contribute to OpenMRS in any possible way. I have been an IT Support for 3 years and looking for some way to improve my technical IT related skills. The ones I developed during those 3 years are SQL, software/hardware troubleshooting, very basic programming concepts. I have a master degree in Linguistics and I’ve always been interested in languages and communication.

I am now willing to help for social causes. Great to be here and thank you for this amazing project.

Hello! I’m Nathan and together with 2 friends we’re volunteering at a hospital in Tanzania (having travelled from Australia!). We are all Computer Science graduates from UNSW Sydney. The hospital’s existing system has many problems, including not able to search for patients, billing issues, and blocking doctors from interacting with patients unless they provide a diagnosis. OpenMRS looks like a great candidate for its replacement - the only functionality which seems lacking is the stock tracking in pharmacy - we haven’t been able to get the module to work.

My name is Laura Rivet, and I work with Alicia Seidle who is the Executive Director at Open Source Hardware Association. Recently we were awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation. I’m the Healthware Community Manager and we’re conducting research on the perceptions of open source medical devices within the medical field.

Open Source Hardware (OSH) spans a wide range of medical devices, from simple Class 1 devices like bandages to complex Class 3 devices like pacemakers. Our goal is to build a stronger relationship with the medical community and gain insights into how the Open Source Community can better collaborate with medical providers and institutions.

Please use this link to get to know the definition of Open Source hardware: Open Source Hardware Definition

We’re interested in your prospective view on the following questions:

  • What type of medical devices are needed specifically for emergent situations in your community/professional setting?

  • What does the healthcare community need to feel confident that open source medical devices can fulfill patient demands?

  • What risks and benefits do you feel open source medical devices can have on the healthcare community, specifically regarding:

  • Patient Privacy

  • Insurance Claims

  • Reliability of the device

  • FDA rigorous testing vs. customization and modifications by open source technicians (allowing continued enhancements) with device maintenance

Your insight would be invaluable to our research. Thank you for your time and consideration.

*Also, if there is anyone else you can recommend that you think would be interested in chatting with me, please feel free to give them my contact information.

Hi everyone!

I’m Dulmika, and I’m super excited to join the OpenMRS community! I’m from Sri Lanka and currently contributing as a new open-source enthusiast. Being part of a mission that’s making a real difference in healthcare is truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to dive in.

A bit about me—I’ve had the chance to work on some cool projects as a software engineering intern and freelancer, where I learned the value of collaboration and continuous learning. I’m here to contribute, learn from all of you, and hopefully make a meaningful impact along the way.

When I’m not tinkering with code, I enjoy writing tech blogs and keeping up with new trends in software development. I’m looking forward to connecting with this amazing community and learning together.
