Hello @njiddasalifu,

I have looked into the previous channels as you asked me to do. What do you think I should do next?

Hey, Let me know your preferences like where are you interested the most. Frontend or backend. You can name some technologies you have started already or the one you want to grow with.

Hello sejal. The best way to get started is to read through the messages in this thread and also read through the docs of the project you are interested. Feel free to post your worry or any blockers here.

Hi everyone, I’m Chris Dare, a recent grad from Carnegie Mellon interested in increasing access to healthcare in Africa. When COVID hit, I had an introduction to digital healthcare through some projects in Ghana and found it to be extremely exciting.

I recently came across OpenMRS and consider it to be a really good solution for hospitals and small clinics. The community here looks amazing. I think I will learn a lot and make some social impact by being active here.

My growing skillsets lie in software engineering, product management and a little bit of machine learning. Concerning software engineering, I’m comfortable working on the backend (packages and REST APIs) with python frameworks. I’m also open to working with Java frameworks as well. On machine learning, I’ve built predictive analytics models with PyTorch and Sklearn - as well curating, analyzing and preprocessing datasets.

I’d love to:

  1. Learn how to implement OpenMRS for a clinic
  2. Help improve the core platform
  3. Learn how to design/build apps that stand stand on top of the OpenMRS to help users/clinics achieve more.

I have also checked out the demo version of OpenMRS v3 and would like to set up a running copy on my laptop to take it for a spin. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to set up as well as continuing my journey in this community?

Hi folks, I came across really good documentation from the awesome wiki to help me get started with setting up a copy of core platform: Get Started as a Developer - Documentation - OpenMRS Wiki.

I’ve also added the backend development meetings to my calendar and looking forward to joining my first meeting!

Dear OpenMRS Community,

My name is Sujith, and I am currently in my final year pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence. Previously, I had the opportunity to work as a Research and Development intern at ADP, where I gained valuable experience and insights into the field. My skill set includes proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Node.js, Express, Next.js, Git, Python, and C++.

I am genuinely enthusiastic about leveraging my skills and knowledge to contribute to the OpenMRS community. However, as I am new to this environment, I would greatly appreciate guidance and assistance in understanding how to get started. It would be wonderful if someone could provide me with insights and directions on how best to contribute effectively.

The prospect of collaborating with like-minded individuals to make a meaningful impact in the realm of medical record systems is both exciting and motivating to me. I am eager to engage with the OpenMRS community, learn from its members, and contribute my expertise to this incredible initiative.

Looking forward to guidance and collaboration,

I am Matembu Emmanuel Dominic a computer engineer pursued from Busitema University and a software engineer by passion with over four years’ experience. I am well versed in Python, ReactJS, Redux, GraphQL, Angular, AWS, HTML, CSS, NodeJS, and current web standards, including approaches to responsive web design and browser compatibility. Furthermore, I have mentored a team of 5 to 45 members on agile methodologies and the application of object-oriented programming principles and software design patterns relevant to the project.

In my opinion, I love challenges because they help me to improve. That’s why I enjoy playing Chess as one of the mental challenges it present and I am glad to join this wounderful team here at open-mrs.
