OpenMRS Week in Review

27 October - 1 November 2014

Announcements

  • Time zone changes: While some OpenMRS meetings are scheduled in the UTC time zone, others are based in a specific time zone where Daylight Saving Time is observed. In the United States, this happened on Sunday. Please check time zone information for the meetings you participate in before making plans for them this week.

  • Ebola Response: Work continues on our OpenMRS community response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. If you’re interested in helping, please visit http://ebola.openmrs.org/ to find the latest information and add your efforts.

Highlights of Last Week

  • Last week in our Developers Forum, we conducted a retrospective on the recent OpenMRS 2.1 release. Take a look at the feedback at https://wiki.openmrs.org/x/MwN-B and if you have more to add, please share it with the dev@ mailing list.

  • On Wednesday, @darius & @cintiadr presented a Google+ Hangout on Air to discuss how the OpenMRS engineering team is using Bamboo for releasing software. Visit the Google+ event page to watch the replay.

  • We also announced that OpenMRS will be applying to participate in Google Code-in (GCI), a contest to introduce pre-university students (ages 13-17) to the many kinds of contributions that make open source software development possible. Unlike Google Summer of Code, GCI is made up of short tasks and needs several people to promptly review work & code. If you’d like to help mentor these talented young people, please let the team know in this thread on OpenMRS Talk. It’s a very rewarding program and we hope you’ll join in next month!
