Hi everyone,
3.8.0-rc.1 is up on test3.openmrs.org, and we need your help to give it a proper workout before the final release.
This one has a lot in it: a faster frontend and platform, two-factor authentication, a reworked visit summary, a redesigned Service Queues app, Metadata Export, and built-in monitoring. That’s plenty of surface area for bugs to hide in, so the more people poke at it, the better.

What to try
Start with the workflows your team uses every day, like registration, queues, ordering, forms, billing, and dispensing. You’ll spot things there faster than anyone else.
Then have a go at the new stuff:
- Visit summary: the new timeline, printing, and the configuration page in System Administration.
- Visit notes: diagnosis rank and certainty, ICD-11 codes, and attaching multiple images.
- Growth charts: now part of the patient chart.
- Service Queues: the new dashboard, the Clinic Administrator screen, and color-coded wait times.
- Registration: picking a preferred identifier and date-type person attributes.
- Billing: date range filters on the bills table.
- Metadata Export: build, view, and download packages from System Administration.
- Two-factor authentication: enroll an authenticator app and log in with a TOTP code. It isn’t enabled on test3, so you’ll need to set it up locally to try it.
Found something?
File it in Jira with steps to reproduce and a screenshot if you can, and tag it 3.8.0-rc.1 so we can triage quickly. Small things count too: a confusing label, a misaligned button, something that just feels off. If you’re not sure whether it’s a bug, post it here and we’ll figure it out together.
We’re especially keen to hear about:
- Regressions: anything that worked in 3.7 but doesn’t now.
- Performance: a lot of this release is speed work, so tell us if things feel faster, slower, or about the same.
- Fit: whether the new features match how your implementation actually works.
Heads up for implementers
Offline support and workspace v1 are gone in this release. If you have custom frontend modules, now’s a good time to check they still load.
Thanks, everyone. Every bug you catch now is one that doesn’t reach a clinic.
