Problem Creating Issue on Jira

Hi I am Ayush Tripathi, sophmore CS undergrad from India. I have recently started exploring and contributing to this community. I found an issue and fixed it now i want to create a pull request for it but i cannot create a new issue in jira its asking me to login even after being logged in the jira and showing you are not authorized to create the issue please login.

Maybe you don’t have the proper access yet. You can request for permission here and then try creating the issue once the access is granted: Jira Service Management

Hi @Ayush_Tripathi, welcome to the community!

I actually faced the exact same issue just couple days ago. This happens because OpenMRS has restricted direct issue creation and claiming on Jira for new accounts to prevent spam. Simply logging in with your Atlassian/OpenMRS ID isn’t enough; you need to explicitly request Jira access from the infrastructure team.

Here is how you can resolve it:

  1. Go to the OpenMRS Help Desk / Service Management portal.

  2. Navigate to Infrastructure RequestsGet access to wiki and issue tracker.

  3. Fill out the form with your OpenMRS ID and a brief summary (e.g., “Requesting Jira access to create a PR and contribute to GSoC”).

  4. Submit it.

An admin usually reviews and approves these requests within a day. Once approved, you will have the necessary permissions to manage your issues.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your first PR!
