POST/PATCH(ing) REST Resources

I haven’t been following the REST module development for a while now. IIRC there was a discussion about modifying the REST module to allow posting/patching resources by modifying a few things in the payloads received from GET request then send these back. Was this ever implemented (I am sorry I know I could simply examine the code but I need a quick answer)?
