Outages notifications scheduling

Hi everyone,

We know, no one loves outages, but sometimes they are necessary :smiley:

What would be a reasonable notice for an outage which will take 1-4h to complete?

  • 2-3 days
  • 4-5 days
  • At least a week

What would be a reasonable notice for an outage which will take 5 minutes - 30 minutes to complete?

  • 2 hours
  • 1 day
  • 2-3 days
  • I’m OK to be notified immediately before the outage if it’s that small

(Yes, I know that weekend/weekdays is relative to timezone and countries, but you get the idea).

I think status.io should be the canonical source. Talk is done as a courtesy. Adding more work is just crazy.

I think status.io is fine as the canonical source for outage notifications, but I think scheduled outages should be posted for Talk.

For what it’s worth, I put 1 day notice on the 5-30 minute range, but that was really for the far end of the range… I’d say for anything less than 10 minutes, I’d be fine with no notice. Problems happen, and I wouldn’t want to go overboard on procedure if a reboot could just be a quick fix.
