We’re excited to announce the release of OpenMRS Platform 2.8.0-alpha, and we invite you to try it out! This alpha release introduces some significant new features and improvements that we’re eager for the community to test.
What’s New
This release brings several major enhancements:
- Java 21 & 24 Support - Modernized Java compatibility for better performance
- Cloud/Scaling Support - New storage service for improved scalability
- Hibernate Search Upgrade - Updated to version 6.2.4 for better search capabilities
- ProviderRole in Core - Migrated functionality from Provider Management Module
- PostgreSQL Setup Support - Simplified installation method for PostgreSQL
- Modernized Install Wizard - Updated UI to match current OpenMRS branding
- Security Improvements - Multiple library upgrades addressing security vulnerabilities
Try It Out
You can explore this alpha release in any of the following ways:
- Download: Get the WAR file or use our Docker image
- Using OpenMRS SDK to set up a new OpenMRS Platform server using 2.8.0-alpha here
- Accessing the OpenMRS UAT Platform Server
