OpenMRS features strongly in DHIS2 EMR survey

This was interesting. The DHIS2 extensibility team in Oslo have just concluded a survey of EMR use amongst the DHIS2 community and HISP groups. It will be published in a week or two, but here is a sneaked paragraph from the discussion:

EMRs in use

One clear and consistent signal is that OpenMRS, Bahmni and DHIS2 Tracker programs are the three main EMRs respondents are working with. In the community survey, these three dominate the list of reported EMR implementations (DHIS2 Tracker programs 15/28, OpenMRS 12/28, Bahmni 10/28), and the HISP survey reflects the same picture in current implementations. There is a nuance here that is also worth addressing: respondents were asked to include DHIS2 Tracker if it was used as a lightweight EMR for specific program workflows. OpenMRS/Bahmni is positioned as the full EMR backbone in facility settings. Taken together, this suggests that the ecosystem is not converging on a single EMR model, but rather on hybrid setups where program-centric workflows and facility-centric clinical workflows are handled by different systems depending on context and maturity. "

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing @bobj and great hearing from you again.

Thanks @bobj for sharing :folded_hands:

Thanks, Bob. Very interesting and not surprising, I guess, particularly given the survey group. Looking forward to the report and also the discussion about the ecosystem, specific use cases and how the three can co-exist in an interoperable environment within a given country/location, etc. (and of course I am interested in the semantics and terminology, too  )

Thanks for sharing @bobj. This is quite interesting. I truly look forward to the full publication, including the survey coverage.
