New Contributor Seeking Next Code Issue / GSoC 2026 Interest.

Hello OpenMRS community,

I’m a new contributor eager to get more involved with the project. I recently completed my first Pull Request, which was a typo fix in the README.md file (PR #5174).

I’m now actively looking for my next contribution, specifically a “Good First Issue” or a simple bug/task to work on, to gain more experience with the codebase. I’ve tried searching JIRA for issues labeled “Good First Issue” and “help wanted” but haven’t found any unassigned ones that seem readily available at the moment.

My long-term goal is to prepare for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 with OpenMRS, so I’m keen to make consistent contributions and learn the codebase more deeply. I’m also currently learning Spring and Spring Boot to strengthen my Java development skills.

Could anyone please point me towards any suitable open and unassigned tasks that would be a good starting point for a new developer? Or recommend a specific module/component that frequently has beginner-friendly issues?

I’m familiar with Java and the basic Git/GitHub workflow.

Thanks for your guidance!

Best regards, Chinmay Chaudhari
