My name is Sonali. I am a computer science student and I am starting my open-source journey.
I am interested in contributing to OpenMRS and preparing for Google Summer of Code. I would like to start with documentation and beginner-friendly issues.
I recommend that you visit the Getting Started as a Developer on the OpenMRS wiki. There, you’ll learn about the different projects, the development environment required to contribute, and other important information to help you get started as an OpenMRS developer.
Thank you very much for the guidance and the warm welcome.
I will go through the “Getting Started as a Developer” documentation and set up my development environment. I am especially interested in starting with documentation and beginner-friendly issues.
Great to see your interest in open source . A good place to begin is the OpenMRS Contributing Guide, which explains how to get started and make your first contributions:
https://guide.openmrs.org/contributing/
You can also check the Getting Started as a Developer guide on the OpenMRS Wiki:
For exploring the application without local setup, you can use the OpenMRS dev server:
https://dev3.openmrs.org
I’d recommend starting with documentation tasks or issues labeled intro / good first issue on Jira. Also, feel free to join the OpenMRS Slack and ask questions there — the community is very supportive.
