My Gsoc journey: 2023 Community bonding period

Developing the print feature, is an exciting experience for me. Knowing that patients can now have a printout of their medication, doctors can easily print prescriptions or lists of patients, all because of my implementation of this feature, brings me immense satisfaction.

To ensure that the print feature meets the specific needs of healthcare professionals, I engaged in various interactions. One significant meeting was an online discussion with PIH, where I had the opportunity to connect with @david.corrales and @fanderson to understand their requirements for the print feature in the system. Additionally, while collaborating with the design team, @cduffy who suggested print button to be inside the actions menu as that’s where all actions related to the list can be found, which I found interesting. These interactions reinforced the importance of creating a seamless and user-friendly experience for healthcare providers.

Expanding beyond a single user group, I actively sought out opportunities to explore the wider demand for the print feature. Recently, I attended the Uganda EMR boot-camp, where OpenMRS was being implemented. It was exciting to discover that the print feature had been eagerly anticipated and desired by the healthcare community. This overwhelming support further motivated me to deliver a solution that would make a significant impact.

Additionally, meeting my mentor, @Hadijah, proved invaluable as she provided guidance on the project’s expectations and direction. Now, equipped with valuable insights and feedback from stakeholders, I feel ready to embark on the coding phase of this project. I am eager to start writing the necessary code to bring the print feature to life. It is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the OpenMRS system and empower healthcare professionals with a tool that simplifies their workflow.
