Looking for Beginner-Friendly Issues to Start Contributing to OpenMRS

Application Name: Other – OpenMRS Development Version Number: N/A

Question: Hello OpenMRS Community,

I am a Java developer and open-source contributor who recently had my first pull request successfully merged in another open-source project. I would like to start contributing to OpenMRS and become a long-term contributor.

I have experience with:

  • Java
  • Object-Oriented Programming
  • Git and GitHub
  • Spring Boot
  • REST APIs

I have already reviewed the contribution guidelines and explored the OpenMRS repositories. However, I would appreciate guidance on:

  1. Which repository is recommended for new contributors?
  2. Are there any beginner-friendly issues currently available?
  3. Is there a recommended development setup guide for first-time contributors?
  4. Are there community meetings or channels where new contributors can receive guidance?

My goal is to start with small issues and gradually contribute to larger features.

Thank you for your time and support.
