Hey @michael, @wyclif, @ayeung & @surangak! Can you take advantage of being around coders at OSCON and see if there are any cool models for hackathons people have done? Would love to hear some new ideas.
I think it’s safe to say that the free & open source world has generally settled on a pretty standard model of hackathons (at least weekend-length hackathons).
https://github.com/kinlane/hack-weekends-guide is a nice writeup that I know of that summarizes best practices. Importantly, the facilitator is required to develop a hackathon theme (we have never been great at this) and guide the brainstorming process for each team around that theme, and ensuring that the proposed team projects have appropriate scope to be accomplished within the timeframe.
