November 13: Final date for mentors to submit evaluations for GSoC contributor projects with extended deadlines.

Final Submission Guidelines

We require GSoC contributors to complete ALL of the following requirements before mentors begin their evaluations on August 28, 2023 .

What is needed?

  1. Video presentation for your project (5 minutes)

  2. Prepare a single shareable document with your project work (12 weeks of work)

  3. Final presentation talk post

  4. Update project wiki page

    1. Video presentation for your project

In addition to the evaluation on the GSoC site, we require students to record, upload and share a short (5 minutes) video on talk that describes and demonstrates the project you’ve been working on during the summer. Please post links to your videos as new topics on Talk under the GSoC category, and make sure to tag these with #gsoc2023-final eval and gsoc23. The aim of this is to provide a quick overview of the project to share with the OpenMRS community.

The video should not exceed 5 minutes, and would ideally include a walk through of the product you’ve developed. It’s great to set the scene by describing the project’s objectives, milestones, etc. But please make sure to also include a description/demo of the work you’ve done on the project, and what’s left to do in the final stages of the GSoC program.

Submissions will follow the same time frame as the final evaluation - you are expected to post links to your videos on Talk the week between 28th August - 4th September.

We suggest taking a look at some of the last years’ presentations for examples of what’s expected,

  1. Single shareable documentation for your project

As part of the final evaluation, you will be asked to provide a document link to the work you’ve done for the program. We ask that you create a new blog post using the format provided at the end of this post and provide that as your final link in the evaluation. You can find examples below,

  • GSoC 2022 Final Evaluations : Submissions from GSoC 2022 (you can go into any of the projects and click on VIEW CODE to see the links used).

P.S : Please find the Project Summary template here.

Once you submit your final evaluation, you can not change it. You should share your link with your mentor BEFORE submitting your evaluation to make sure all is well.

  1. Final presentation talk post

As well as adding a final blog post, contributors will need to post a new topic on OpenMRS talk, titled ‘GSoC 2023 - Project Title - Final Presentation’, using the same format and details as your blog post, and make sure to tag these with #gsoc2023-finaleval and gsoc2023.

  1. Update project wiki page

Please make sure to update the project page on the OpenMRS wiki with details of what was completed, any relevant links to code repositories and/or other resources, and importantly, clarify if there is still any outstanding work to be done on the project. One of the aims here is to move pages over to the Completed Projects section, but we need details on the status of each project first.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the update @kdaud :+1:

Thanks @kdaud. Let’s get this done :mechanical_arm:

Hello, champions!

It’s great to see that you have all submitted your final evaluations on time. In order to evaluate your project from our end, we need one more thing from you. We request that you create an epic containing the remaining tasks and suggested improvements for your project. This will help to maintain the momentum you have built up with your project. Anyone, including yourself, can assign and work on these tickets. Please ensure that the tickets are well described so that anyone in the community can easily understand them by reading them. Please submit the link(s) to the epic(s) by replying to this thread on or before September 1st. Mentors, please keep this in mind when submitting your evaluations. We expect you to submit your evaluations by September 2nd.

What’s next?

This is not the end! Keep contributing to the community and it will help your career growth. We will upgrade your dev stage to dev/2 on the last week of September depending on your contributions and presence in the community over the upcoming month. Additionally, we are planning to hold a GSoC showcase where you can showcase your work to the community and the implementers. This will be helpful for you to expand your network and potentially receive internship opportunities from our implementers. Keep this in mind - we’ll share exact dates soon.

Remember, becoming a GSoC mentor, org admin, or fellow next year at OpenMRS is not just a great opportunity for your career growth, but it’s also an achievable goal. You have already demonstrated your skills and dedication through your participation in GSoC, and now is the time to take the next step. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and continue to contribute to the community. With hard work and perseverance, you can achieve your goals and make a real impact in the world of open source. We believe in you!
