Hello Sir, I want to contribute to the Android Client project but when I try to create a JIRA ticket and sign in, it always says incorrect username or password. I used username and password same as OpenMRS community but it isn’t working. Do I need a specific account for creating JIRA tickets?

which link are you trying to log into?

@shivansh221b you need to request access for JIRA and wiki through this link

All right thank so much

Hi everyone, I am Shreyash Lata, looking forward to contribute to this amazing organisation under GSoC. I looked to the project list and found some interesting projects (mainly Android client one), also I commented few days ago on an old Talk page of OpenMRS. I am excited to start contributing here. Can anyone please help me with the process of raising and commenting on the issues page as it looks a bit confusing. Also, just clarifying that issues are only mentioned on “openMRS issues” rather than GitHub’s issues section ?

Hi @leoshrey. Welcome to OpenMRS once small. Glad to see you are getting along.

Now for you to have full access to the issues on Jira, you need to sign in. Now this process entails you to request access from the help desk so that you be eligible. You can do that https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/docs/How+to+get+access+to+issues.openmrs.org.

OpenMRS host it’s issues Implicitly and Solely on Jira.

Hope that’s answers your questions.

Thanks.

Thank you for clarifying me. Can you please send the working link, as the link you provided seems invalid as it is not reaching to any page.

Oh yeah, sorry about that @leoshrey. You can have a look Here.

Also, I recommend you also have a look at Getting Started As A Developer

Hey guys! I have some organizational questions. I looked through a lot of links but could not find information on how I can start to work on tickets. I found some tickets with status “Ready to work” is it okay to start working on them? Or should I discuss it with someone if it is a good introductory issue or not? And should I also ask somebody to assign me to the ticket or I should do it by myself?

Hi @maria,

Well for any issues you can have a look at the right-hand column there it is mentioned, under “People”, as “Assignee”, if someone has assigned the issue to themselves then their name will be mentioned, or else it will be “unassigned” and you can assign it to yourself by clicking on “Assign to me”.

If you think you have the required knowledge to work on the issue then sure you can start working on the issue. But if you have any issues regarding the requirements, then you can tag the “Reporter” for clarification.
For introductory issues, you can add the “label” filter as “intro” to the Jira issue tracker.

As mentioned, you can tag the reporter in the comments of the issue and ask some clarifying doubts. It mainly depends on the project to which the issue is related, you need to find the respective repo and make the required changes in your local dev env, and then you can submit a PR.
I hope this helped.
If you have any doubts you can ask.
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply @ujjwaltyagi355. One more question. I found something in the project that I can fix, but it’s not reported yet and has no ticket. Can I create a new ticket by myself?

Hi @maria,
Sure you can create a ticket and then assign it to yourself to work on it.
You can click on the “create” button on the top nav. And that will open a new dialog for you to fill the info.

I have a question about JIRA ticket, say I want to work on the issue created by someone else, what should I do to have it assigned to me? I tried the option Assign to me and Claim issue but still I am getting comments like

“you cannot assign this to yourself”

Do I have to message the reporter to claim the issue or what? Please help.

If someone commented the way you are saying, then maybe they are personally working on that issue.
This mostly doesn’t happen, for discarding the confusion there is this “assign to me” option, but if it has then I would suggest that you move forward and find some other issue for yourself.
Hope this helps.

Hi @shivansh221b Is that ticket initially unassiged ?

Do you have access to JIRA if you do then the issue most have been claimed by someone else but if you don’t then request for JIRA Access so you could claim issues.

Yes, it does.
Thank you very much

Hello everyone! I’m Aditya Bisht. I had been a part of OpenMRS since 2019 when I first learned about it during GCI’19. It was a wonderful experience and thanks to the mentors and their guidance that I was one of the winners from OpenMRS. Due to my college entrance tests, I wasn’t able to contribute much during the past year but I’m looking forward to changing that through GSoC’21. Looking forward to a wonderful journey
