Generating Patient ids issue

Hi All, I’m attempting to set up auto generating of new patient ids that conform to, e.g., ga-0000, ga-0001, etc. However, I’m not able to successfully register a new patient. Also, it didn’t like my dashes in the regular expression? A link to a set of screen shots showing how I set up the patient id type/source/autogen/emr id type setting uuid can be found dropbox screenshots. For testing purposes I’m running openmrs-standalone-2.4 on an iMac with Chrome. Any help is much appreciated. Barry

One other item of concern - when I test generate ids it always adds a dash and a digit at the end of the id: {“identifiers”:[“ga0000-0”,“ga0001-8”,“ga0002-6”,“ga0003-4”,“ga0004-2”,“ga0005-9”,“ga0006-7”,“ga0007-5”,“ga0008-3”,“ga0009-1”]}

The registration screen by default uses the OpenMRS ID patient identifier type. https://demo.openmrs.org/openmrs/admin/patients/patientIdentifierType.form?patientIdentifierTypeId=3 Which with your version of the reference application is set using the “emr.primaryIdentifierType” global property. You could make it point to your identifier type by specifying its uuid, but i think it will be overwritten on restart. Therefore the easiest would be to get rid of your new identifier type and instead set these conformation requirement values for the default OpenMRS ID patient identifier type which is in use.

Taking a step back, I think we’ve heard the request several times to support auto-generating more than one identifier type.

I suggest approaching this as a new feature request for the registrationcore and registrationapp modules to support a configurable property for “identifiers to autogenerate with every registration”.

(@levine would then need to update to the latest version of several modules; are you specifically required to be on RefApp 2.4?)

Thanks for help both Daniel and Darius…regarding RefApp 2.4 I’m bound to that version. If there are newer versions of modules that could be included in 2.4 and would fix the issue then it would be fine

On your system, if you use the legacyui to try create a patient, choose the identifier type that you have configured and click the Generate Identifier checkbox, does the displayed identifier look as expected?

I followed your suggestion but after checking the Generate id checkbox it doesn’t display any id - the id field remains blank and the system complains about a blank/null id

@levine can you look at your “idgen_seq_id_gen” database table and tell me the value that you have for the “next_sequence_value” column for this identifier type?

It generates ids like 0000003 and complains of validation error in ref app. When I use the legacy UI to generate a new patient it indicates “Identifier “0000004” does not match : “letters followed by digits””

@dkayiwa, not sure I understand the question entirely. But a few things I notice on this thread that I’ll mention @levine:

You should be able to set up the autogeneration of ids in the format you specified:[quote=“levine, post:1, topic:11358”] ga-0000, ga-0001, etc [/quote]
To do so, you would create an Identifier Source that is a Local Identifier Generator, and specify:

prefix: “ga-”
length: 7
first identifier base: 0000
base character set: 0123456789

As far as why this is happening:

This is caused by the configuration of the Identifier Type that you are generating this identifier for. If your Patient Identifier Type is configured to use a particular Validator, and if this Validator utilizes a check-digit algorithm, then the Identifier Source will use this to ensure a valid check digit is generated on the identifier (otherwise, all identifiers that are generated would be immediately invalid). This appears on the Identifier Source configuration page as a read-only “Check-Digit Algorithm” property, and can be changed on the Patient Identifier Type administration page.

On attempting to auto generate an identifier, i get this error message: Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Invalid configuration for IdentifierSource. Length maximum set to 7 but generated ga-810012
