Hello OpenMRS community!

We are a student development team (from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka) working on a project focused on Drug Order Templates in OpenMRS O3.

We will use this thread to share our weekly progress, findings, questions, and updates throughout the project.

We are currently in the initial research and analysis phase, reviewing the existing OpenMRS drug-order workflow and previous discussions related to Drug Order Templates.

Meeting Update – September 2, 2026

During today’s meeting, we were asked to:

Set up the OpenMRS platform locally, including both the frontend and backend. Define and document the scope of our project. Set up and work with Jira tickets for project task management.

We have prepared our initial proposal for the Drug Order Templates project in OpenMRS O3, outlining our planned scope and objectives.

Week of September 15, 2026 - [Oder template, Oder sets]

Done:

  • Set up the OpenMRS platform locally.
  • Analyzed existing features using GitHub Copilot.
  • Posted identified system shortcomings to the “Drug Order Templates” main thread.

Next:

  • Gather and validate requirements based on the existing OpenMRS workflow and identified system gaps.
  • Review relevant OpenMRS documentation, community discussions, and similar implementations.
  • Discuss and validate the gathered requirements with the project mentor and relevant stakeholders.

Blocked on: Requirements gathering and validation (Project team / relevant OpenMRS stakeholders)

Decisions needed:

  • Confirmation of the identified requirements and existing system gaps before proceeding with design and implementation.

Focus: Order Templates, Order Sets

Done

  • Reviewed the proposal and identified areas that need correction or clarification.

Next

  • Research how the search process works in OpenMRS Order Templates.

  • Prepare a document explaining the current search process, including the relevant APIs and backend flow.

  • Research the EMR API and create a mock API to understand how it could be used for the proposed feature.

Blocked on

  • Need a clearer understanding of the existing Order Template search flow and APIs

Decisions needed

  • Confirm the scope of the Order Template search functionality to be investigated
