As you may know, we have a diversity page on our WIKI where we feature a few members of our community. We would love to highlight YOU if you are interested ! please check out the WIKI page and see if you may want to be share your bio on this page, and serve as a peer mentor in our diversity efforts. Thanks in advance for your consideration of this.
does this mean i just edit the page my self??
That’s a great question! And I’d love to hear ideas from the community: who should write up the Diversity Peer profiles on our Wiki? How can we share these amazing resources with our community?
My idea , would be to have some one acting as admin for this. so that we have some level of control over this. this would mean the admin will have to add only the qualified members to the page ,(that is if there’s any selection criteria anyway for some one to appear there), and then ascertains that the information provided is correct.
ovcos i really wouldnt expect any one from anywhere (as long as they have an openmrs id) to add them selves there anyhow ,any time. it would kind of loose meaning. thats my idea any way.
@mozzy, thanks for sharing these ideas. I agree that we would want to add profiles in a way that preserves the meaning and value.
We have a Diversity Council. What role could that Council play in this?
@terry @janflowers @carina @jwnasambu @irenyak1 @ball @c.antwi @maimoonak @jordan @fali
We can create a template to get the information from candidates. This way information sent by them would be structured and it would easier to filter and verify the data.
Now what we can do is create a public thread to let everyone send their information, or we can create a group with some council members whom people can reach out to proceed with this.
Nice ideas, @maimoonak! So what would we most like to know about the candidates? And would we feature everyone we heard back from at once or periodically?
These could be
- Background (Education, major work experience)
- OpenMRS might be interested in knowing about the type of work they do
- Integration with their Products
- Implementation
- Backend Development
- Frontend Developement
- QA/Testing
- Contributions to OpenMRS
- Contributions to other opensource communities
- What inspires them to contribute to opensource
I think we can do it every x interval. It would be easier for moderator to review and filter all responses, get feedback from other members, and then feature the profiles. This would ensure that other people have enough time to provide their feedback.
What do other members say?
The more people that are engaged, the better! We should encourage people to be involved in the diversity work. The more people that submit to be included, the better- and the ‘filtering’ should be minimal IMO.
@maimoonak, this reminds me a little bit of the questionaire that we have those selected as Volunteer of the Month fill out. I would love to see more diversity among those nominated and selected for Volunteer of the Month! (Yes, this is a shameless plug to nominate someone for May’s VOM! )
We can still encourage those who want to be featured to use those questions to help write a bio (like yours on our Diversity Wiki page) and have the Diversity Council decide when to feature those that we receive.
What about having the council reach out to specific people who we would like to feature? Who would those people be?
