Difference between Distribution and Platform SDK setting

Hi, I am new to the community and to open source development in general, but with a lot of enthusiasm and would love to start coding as soon as possible. I wish to ask abt the differences between the distribution and platform options during the SDK installation, I’ve gone through countless topics similar to this, but haven’t really got an answer. Also, would the SDK work with mysql 5.7 or would I need to downgrade to 5.6? The SDK version am using is 3.8.2 on ubuntu 16.04. Thanks

This page can help you: https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/docs/OpenMRS+Distributions

The platform is pretty much the ‘core’ plus a few basic things. It doesn’t have a UI, for example.

When you mix platform plus a bunch of modules, you end up with a distribution! In SDK, that means the reference application distribution.

I believe the latest version of the platform already supports mysql 5.7.
