I am a programmer in Vietnam, I am currently developing a new RIS software, I have researched and found that Bahmni combined with OpenMRS has modules that can be used for RIS connection, however I have not seen the module that returns results in Bahmi, I would like to present the items that I have and when combined with OpenMRS|Bahmni, can I create a complete RIS system?
I currently have:
PACS System (full-PACS) built on dcm4chee: PACS has Worklist interface
Non-DICOM to DICOM conversion tool
Other sub-applications that can be used in RIS such as creating HL7 Message, creating PDF reports.
I would like to ask if with the modules that I have, combined with OpenMRS|Bahmni, can I create a RIS system? I would also like to demonstrate a RIS process that the hospital is using as follows.
When a patient comes for a visit, an order will be created on RIS (or created on HIS and pushed down to Worklist on RIS software) > Technician or Admin will assign that case to a certain doctor (RADIOLOGIST) > That doctor will conduct an examination, take x-rays, ES, US, etc. > Save the report > Approved Report. When the report is approved, a PDF file and HL7 Message will be exported.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read and I am truly grateful for your reply!
Yes, it is possible to create a RIS (Radiology Information System) using Bahmni/OpenMRS, as Bahmni already includes some RIS functionalities out of the box. However, OpenMRS by itself does not have a complete RIS module.
In your case, combining Bahmni (which leverages OpenMRS as its backend) with your existing components can definitely help build a robust RIS system. Bahmni provides excellent integration capabilities for managing patient orders, reports, and workflows.
To address your specific requirements:
Order Creation & Assignment: Bahmni can handle order creation and assign them to specific technicians or radiologists.
Integration with PACS: I’ve developed an OpenMRS module for radiology that integrates with DCM4CHEE, enabling seamless worklist communication. The PACS integration also supports viewers like Weasis or Oviyam for examining the images.
Reports & Approvals: You can extend Bahmni or create a custom module in OpenMRS to handle the report generation, approvals, and exporting in PDF/HL7 format. With your tools for HL7 messaging and PDF reports, this integration becomes easier.
In summary, combining Bahmni/OpenMRS with your PACS and other tools, you can create a complete RIS system that fulfills the workflow you’ve described. Let me know if you need guidance on implementing these features or integrating them with your setup.
