[Beta 2.0 Release] Call for Feedback: The New Bahmni UI

Hello OpenMRS & Bahmni Community!

We are incredibly excited to announce that the Beta 2.0 version of the new Bahmni User Interface is now live and ready for community testing!

Over the past few months, our team has been working hard to modernize the Bahmni experience, focusing on improving usability, performance, and accessibility. Before we move towards a final release, we want to make sure it meets the real-world needs of our implementers, clinicians, and developers.

We would love for you to poke around, try out your usual workflows, and let us know what you think. We are specifically looking for feedback on:

  1. User Experience (UX): Does the new layout feel intuitive? Are there any workflows that feel clunky or confusing?

  2. Feature Parity: Are you missing any critical features or data from the legacy UI?

  3. Bugs & Glitches: Did you hit any dead ends, errors, or visual bugs?

  4. Performance: How is the loading speed and responsiveness compared to the previous version?

  • A brief description of what you were trying to do.

  • The steps to reproduce the issue.

Thanks for putting this together! I’ve started testing the demo.

I ran into an issue: after clicking Live Demo → Analytics, I get an Internal Server Error:

Bahmni — Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

This happens consistently — just navigating to the Analytics section triggers it. Might be worth checking the server logs for that route.

it later worked and after submitting the login form, I get the error:

Unknown property ‘’ on class ‘class org.openmrs.Person’

I also see “Could not get roles for the current user.”

This is happening on the beta-lite.mybahmni.in instance. I have attached a screenshot of the error and also shared the full stack trace here: Pastebin. Could someone confirm if this is a known issue with the beta instance?

Thanks for the work well done. I just have a small suggestion. While registering a new patient, I think the date of birth text field needs to come first before the Years (Age), Months (Age), and Days (Age) fields because entering Date of birth automatically fills in the three fields. I think this would make it easier for someone entering the data since we all normally follow the order of fields to fill.

Thanks to the team for the work that has been done so far.

  1. Name capitalization: Could names default to an initial capital, while remaining overrideable by the staff

  2. Birth time: This is probably only relevant in pediatric/neonatal care and hence the reasonable default would be to disable this and the implementer can enable it if required.

  3. Estimated DOB: When staff enter an age and the system calculates the DOB, could the “Estimated DOB” checkbox be selected automatically?
