Hi all,
We are happy to announce the release of Bahmni Lite 2.0! ![]()
This is a major release for Bahmni Lite, bringing a modernized frontend, FHIR R4 adoption across core clinical workflows, a redesigned consultation experience, and significant infrastructure and security upgrades.
What is Bahmni Lite? Bahmni Lite is a lightweight distribution of Bahmni, designed for smaller facilities and implementers who want a fully functional EMR with a smaller footprint, simpler setup, and faster time-to-deploy, while retaining the core clinical workflows implementers rely on.

Major Features / Changes
-
New React 19-based frontend for Home, Registration, and Clinical modules, replacing the legacy AngularJS UI.
-
FHIR R4 adoption across core workflows — Registration (Patient create/update/fetch), Clinical (Observations, Conditions, AllergyIntolerance, MedicationRequest, Vaccinations, ServiceRequest, DocumentReference, Appointments), and Lab Entry (DiagnosticReport $submit-bundle and search) now run on FHIR R4 APIs.
-
New Home Page — fully React-based, with a location switcher, module tile grid with privilege-controlled visibility, and privilege-gated legacy tiles for backward compatibility during migration.
-
Redesigned Registration — new React UI with collapsible sections, patient photo capture, configurable ContactInfo/Additional Info fields via PersonAttributes, and additional patient identifier support.
-
New Consultation Pad — a unified, event-driven consultation experience covering diagnoses, allergies/conditions, medications, lab/radiology/procedure orders, vaccinations, patient documents, and appointments, with a responsive 40/60 split-screen dashboard–consultation layout and a global command palette for patient search (by phone/email).
-
Forms 2.0 (form2-controls) — complete migration to the Carbon Design System for atomic (NumericBox, Date, DateTime, Textbox, Dropdown) and composite (Section, ObsControl, Table, CodedControl, Image/Video, AddMore) controls; published as an npm library; includes form pinning, search, and config-driven form restriction. Note: legacy forms with event scripts must be republished to formDefVersion: 2.0 (base64-encoded scripts).
-
Lab Entry refactor — updated to FHIR R4 APIs, with per-test data point entry, report file uploads, radiology report review with ImagingStudy and image-quality assessment, and program-filtered lab orders.
-
New Patient Documents app — dedicated upload/view/audit flow, routed from the Home Page, with single file upload per visit.
-
Core platform upgrades — OpenMRS Core 2.5.14 → 2.6.15, OpenMRS database image now on MySQL 8.0, openmrs-module-snomed upgraded to v3.0.0-SNAPSHOT, CIEL package upgraded to v2026-06-13.
-
Security fixes — critical vulnerabilities patched across Docker images (including bahmni-core), floating base image tag fixed in the bahmni-apps-frontend Dockerfile, Axios upgraded, and a fix for web clients leaking connections on failed API calls.
-
Data migration tooling — scripts and validation provided for migrating legacy diagnoses to FHIR Conditions, legacy lab results to FHIR DiagnosticReport, legacy document observations to FHIR DocumentReference, and medication notes (order_reason_non_coded → comment_to_fulfiller) — see bahmni-scripts tag 2.0.0-lite.
-
Developer experience — refreshed README/setup docs, a new Storybook environment for form2-controls (local support only, run via yarn storybook), new implementer guides (Print Latest Medications, Patient Documents, CIEL), a new training video library, and unique element IDs added across the UI for test automation.
In total, this release closes out 75 issues tracked for Bahmni Lite 2.0.

If you’re upgrading from Bahmni Lite 1.0.x, please review the Data Migration section in the release notes before upgrading — several data migration and validation scripts need to be run as part of the upgrade path.
Known Issues / Limitations
-
Legacy Observation Forms with event scripts need to be republished, since form event scripts must now be base64 encoded.
-
Post CIEL upgrade, the CIEL dictionary has been verified for English; a few concepts in “es” (Spanish) are currently duplicated.
