Hello OpenMRS community,
I am currently working with a non-profit healthcare organization focused on delivering services in high-volume clinical environments. One of our key challenges is improving patient identification and speeding up the check-in process while keeping workflows simple for frontline staff.
We are exploring ways to streamline patient identity management in OpenMRS implementations, especially in low-resource and non-profit settings where efficiency and simplicity are critical. In some of our internal discussions, we are also evaluating a digital membership card style approach for patient identification, where each patient could have a quick-access identifier to simplify retrieval during registration and follow-up visits.
The goal is to reduce manual search time, minimize errors in patient lookup, and improve overall experience for both staff and patients.
I would like to learn from the community:
- What are the best practices in OpenMRS for fast patient search and retrieval in non-profit or low-resource settings?
- Are there existing modules or implementations that improve check-in efficiency?
- How do large-scale deployments manage unique patient identifiers effectively?
- Has anyone integrated external identity systems (such as QR-based or card-based workflows) with OpenMRS REST APIs?
Any insights, real-world examples, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
