Greetings from Mozambique! We’re looking forward to seeing many of you in just under two weeks at the Maputo 2015 OpenMRS Implementers Meeting! Early next week, we’ll be sending registered participants an information packet to review and bring along as you travel to Mozambique. Meanwhile, if you’re attending, please take note of a few things:
Airport arrival & ground transportation
I-TECH will be arranging a driver to be present for the major flights into Maputo International Airport on Sunday and Monday to take attendees to Hotel VIP Grand Maputo or Pestana Rovuma. Look for the OpenMRS/Maputo 2015 sign when you exit the secured arrivals area. If you will not be arriving on Sunday or Monday and have questions about transportation to your hotel, please contact the hotel directly, your travel agent, or events■■■■■■■■■■■■. Shuttle buses will travel between Hotel VIP, Pestana, and the university venue daily – each morning from 08:00 to 10:00 AM, as well as in the evenings at the conclusion of our daily schedule. Taxis will also be available; we’ll provide more information in the participant packet next week.
Be ready for the weather!
Maputo is hot and humid, with January average high temperatures of 30°C (86°F), average low temperatures of 22°C (72°F), and total precipitation for the month of 130 mm (5.1 in). Be prepared for rain and warm weather, drink plenty of clean water, and dress accordingly! Remember, there is no formal dress code at Maputo 2015, so wear whatever feels comfortable to you. Maputo 2015 t-shirts will be available for pickup at the beginning of the week for those who registered with early bird or regular tickets. Those of you who registered late will be able to pick up your t-shirts later in the week.
About the unconference format
Once again, this OpenMRS Implementers Meeting will be using the popular unconference format. Just after the opening sessions on Tuesday morning, we’ll be doing session planning where we line up the week’s discussions. Anyone can propose a session, so thinking of ideas today! We’ll ask you to write a very short description of your session in a few words on a card, and say a few words to the audience on Tuesday morning, before merging and sorting out the week’s agenda. All OpenMRS, health IT, or related topics are welcome! Session rooms will be available in various sizes, and LCD projectors will be available for those sessions that require it.
