Hi everyone ![]()
My name is Shivam, and I’m a final-year Computer Science student with a strong interest in backend systems and distributed architectures. I’ve been exploring OpenMRS and I’m impressed by the real-world impact the platform has across many countries.
I’m planning to contribute actively and am particularly interested in areas like platform improvements, data filtering/multi-tenancy, and scalability enhancements. I’ve started setting up the development environment and going through the contributor documentation.
I would really appreciate guidance on good first issues or areas where I can begin contributing meaningfully.
Looking forward to learning from and collaborating with the community. Thank you for the work you all do!

I would love guidance on beginner-friendly issues to start with.
Hi everyone! My name is Ayesha Siddeeqa and I’m a first-year undergraduate in Biosystems Technology (Applied Biotech) at KDU, Sri Lanka.
I am very interested in participating in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 with OpenMRS. I have a beginner-to-intermediate background in Java and I’m currently learning Python Because of my biotech background, I am really excited about OpenMRS’s mission to use technology for healthcare.
I’m new to open source and would love guidance on:

Subject: Hello from Uganda!
Hi everyone,
My name is Nalwoga Tracy and I’m joining the community from Uganda. I’m a Developer / Software Engineering Student with a background in Springboot Java.
After a bit of a struggle getting my account set up (thanks to the community for the help!), I’m excited to finally be here. I want to learn more about how OpenMRS 3 is built and how I can contribute to “good first issues” to help improve healthcare systems.
Looking forward to working with you all!
Hello OpenMRS Community!
I am Shubham, a 1st year CSE B.Tech student from India. I am currently maintaining a 9.1 CGPA and have a strong foundation in C. My current academic focus is mastering Java (OOPs and Collections) which aligns my goal to contribute to OpenMRS.
For GSoC 2026, I am particularly drawn to Medium-sized projects, with a strong interest in “Form Engine Error Handling & Validation Improvements.” I believe this aligns well with my interest in building robust, user-friendly backend logic.
I have already set up my OpenMRS ID and started exploring the documentation to reach my /dev/1 status. I am currently suffering from a ligament tear in my ankle and simultaneously preparing for my mid-sem exams. But I will try my best to stay in touch with the community and my contributions.
I’m excited to learn from the community’s expertise and hope to grow into a long-term contributor while helping OpenMRS improve healthcare delivery through quality code!

Hi everyone!
I’m Aditya Dalvi, a second-year engineering student from [Pune, India]. I’ve been exploring OpenMRS for GSoC 2026 and I’m specifically interested in the Improved Appointments Calendar View project under O3.
I’ve already cloned openmrs-esm-patient-management and started exploring the pacakges/esm-appointments-app/src/calender/ folder to understand the current structure. I can see the calendar currently shows appointment counts per service without any drill-down — and I’m reading through how the existing components fetch data from the REST API.
My current stack is JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and React (actively learning). I’m comfortable with Git and VS Code.
A few things I’d love some guidance on:
-
Is there a recommended way to set up the local dev environment — should I point to the demo server or spin up a local backend?
-
Are there any good first issues related to the appointments frontend I can pick up while I get familiar with the codebase?
Really happy to be here and looking forward to contributing!
— Aditya Dalvi

Hello everyone!
I’m Igor Miras, a Computer Science student from UNESP - Brazil. I’m very excited to join the OpenMRS community!
I am particularly interested in contributing to the OpenMRS Brazil initiative. For my course completion project (TCC), my goal is to work on integrating OpenMRS with RNDS (Rede Nacional de Dados em Saúde - Brazil’s National Health Data Network).
Since I am just starting my journey in the OpenMRS ecosystem, I am currently reading the documentation and familiarizing myself with the architecture. Any tips, guidance, or pointers on where a newcomer should start—especially regarding HL7 FHIR and RNDS integration—would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to learning from and collaborating with you all.

Hello OpenMRS Community,
My name is Vishnu Vardhan, and I am a developer passionate about healthcare technology and Quality Assurance. I have been following the progress of OpenMRS 3.0 (O3) and am very impressed by the user experience on the o3.openmrs.org demo.
I am writing to introduce myself as I begin contributing to the community in preparation for GSoC 2026. My primary focus is on Automated Testing and ensuring the stability of core workflows.
My Current Work & Skills:
-
OpenMRS O3 Testing: I have started documenting and writing test cases for the Primary Demo (
dev3.openmrs.org). -
Personal Project (Baasha Translator): To sharpen my automation skills, I have built a comprehensive test suite using TestNG for my project, Baasha Translator. This helped me master data-driven testing and reporting. **[https://baasha-translator.web.app/**\].
My Goal: I want to help improve the test coverage for O3, specifically focusing on [mention a specific area, like Patient Registration or Vital Signs entry].
I would appreciate any guidance from the QA Team or mentors on which modules currently need the most testing support or if there are specific Jira issues labeled “Ready for Work” that a newcomer should pick up first.
Looking forward to contributing to the mission!
I Hope it will reach some can help me to guide……
