Hello everyone,
We are two Master’s degree engineering students currently working on our master thesis project. As part of our project, we would love to contribute to OpenMRS by developing a module that helps classify groups of words or discharge notes into ICD-10 codes.
Rather than a fully automatic system, our idea is to build a decision support tool that suggests a limited set of relevant ICD-10 codes (for example, around 20-30 options), from which a medical coder or user would select the most appropriate one.
Since we are not OpenMRS users ourselves, we would really appreciate feedback from people who actively use OpenMRS in real clinical or operational settings. Our goal is to build something genuinely useful for the community and aligned with users’ real needs and workflows.
Any feedback, suggestions, or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time and responses! @egouthiere

As an IT professional with extensive experience managing high-availability healthcare IT systems, I am currently working on a strategic initiative to implement a large-scale OpenMRS EHR system across a Francophone nation in Africa. Given the complexities of coordinating enterprise-wide clinical operations and the unique infrastructure requirements of the region, I am seeking to connect with experts who have successfully navigated national or regional OpenMRS rollouts. I have several targeted questions regarding platform scalability, localization for French-speaking contexts, and data governance, and I would greatly value the opportunity to exchange insights with anyone who has managed similar large-scale health informatics projects in this specific geographical landscape.
Hi! Daniel Alemu here. I am an under grad Software Engineering student from Ethiopia who’s interested in GSoC 2026. I love the concept of this project, and I hope I can contribute something meaningful to it.
I am interested in web development and familiar with JavaScript, ReactJS, Django, Node, and SQL, as well as design tools.
I found the level of documentation and organization here to be great, and the community seems to be even greater! Looking forward to learning a lot and contributing ![]()
Hello OpenMRS community
I’m Raiyaan, a Java & Spring Boot developer preparing for GSoC 2026. I’m here because OpenMRS solves real healthcare problems, and I want to learn how large production systems are designed while contributing consistently; not just for GSoC but long-term. I’m currently setting up the project locally and exploring the backend architecture. I’d appreciate guidance on good first issues where I can start helping immediately. Excited to contribute and grow with the community!
Hello everyone! ![]()
My name is Shreyas Unnibhavi, and I am a 2025 Electronics and communication Engineering graduate from India.
I have a strong technical foundation in Java, Object-Oriented Programming, and SQL, along with hands-on experience building cross-platform applications using Flutter.
