Hello OpenMRS Community!

My name is Yannick VISSOH, and I am a Software Architecture Master’s student currently based in Benin.

I have recently started working with OpenMRS, specifically exploring the O3 (version 3) architecture and the REST Web Services module. I am very interested in how OpenMRS manages data through its API and how the backend is structured with Spring Boot.

I am here to learn from the community, contribute where I can, and eventually integrate OpenMRS concepts into my research and projects.

I’ve just set up my environment using Docker and I’m currently diving into the REST resources. Looking forward to interacting with you all!

Best regards, Yannick VISSOH

Hi everyone,

I’m Partha Mallick, a Full Stack Developer from Kolkata, India.

My journey into open source is a bit unconventional—I transitioned from a commerce background (B.com) into software engineering because I fell in love with building tools that solve actual problems. Because of this, I don’t just write code; I focus heavily on usability and shipping products.

My Tech Stacks:

  • Javascript, React, Next.js, Node.js(MERN).

Recent works:

  • I’ve built a real-time player intelligence dashboard for Counter-Strike 2 (using ViteJS & Valve’s GSI) and an end-to-end encrypted social media prototype using Supabase.

Experience:

  • I run a freelance web dev portfolio (codeweez.in) where I help clients launch their business ideas without breaking the bank.

I am specifically interested in the O3 frontend modernization. The shift to a microfrontend architecture is fascinating, and I want to apply my React/Dashboard experience to help improve the UX for healthcare providers.

I have successfully set up the O3 development environment locally and am currently browsing the JIRA board for intro issues to make my first PR.

Looking forward to learning from this amazing community.

Hi everyone, I’m Parth Singh, a pre-final year IT student interested in Java and Spring Boot. I’ve been working on various backend projects and am excited to start my open-source journey here at OpenMRS. Happy to be here!

Hello OpenMRS Community,

My name is Samarth, and I am a Java developer with experience in Spring Boot–based backend development. I have worked on REST API development, authentication mechanisms (JWT & OAuth2), database design using PostgreSQL, and containerization with Docker.

I am particularly interested in contributing to backend modules within OpenMRS, especially areas involving REST services, performance optimization, and bug fixes. I am currently preparing for GSoC 2026 and would like to begin contributing meaningfully from now to understand the codebase deeply.

I am comfortable working with:

  • Java & Spring Boot

  • REST API design

  • Database integration (JPA/Hibernate)

  • Security implementation

  • Microservices fundamentals

I would appreciate guidance on beginner-friendly backend issues or areas where I can start contributing immediately.

Looking forward to collaborating with the community.

Thank you.

Hello OpenMRS Community,

I’m Aritra Banerjee, a 2nd-year Computer Engineering student from Kolkata, India, moving into 3rd year. I am incredibly excited to join the OpenMRS community and contribute to the mission of improving healthcare through open-source software. I plan to apply for GSoC 2026 and am eager to start contributing to the codebase.

Technical Skills & Projects: My primary focus is on Java and Spring Boot for backend development, and I am also proficient in C++ , with good proficiency in Data structures and Algorithms Some of my recent work includes:

  • Smart India Hackathon (SIH) Project 1: Developed a Secure Communication Application for Defense Personnel, implementing Video Calls, Voice Calls, Group Messaging, using Java, C++, and React Native. I implemented WebSockets, JWT Authentication, SHA 512 encryption, Database- MySQL, Redis caching, NGINX.

  • Smart India Hackathon Project (SIH) 2: Developed a Smart Tourism App for ensuring the safety of travellers across diverse and remote terrains. I used Java SpringBoot for backend, Database- MySQL, implemented real time location tracking, Geofencing, Real time alerts to police and rescue team dashboards, JWT Authentication, Secure Digital ID with user credentials, Redis for caching, NGINX.

  • SmartHive: Built an IoT and AI-driven smart building automation system with a Java Spring Boot backend, Fog Computing , ML models for fault detection, Security Surveillance using Face Recognition, distributed IoT nodes and real time dashboard and mobile app. Database:MySQL and InfluxDB

  • Multilayer Perceptron from Scratch: Built a CNN and MLP in C++ for digit and letter detection to understand the “under the hood” logic of AI.

I’ve been following OpenMRS because of its sophisticated use of Java and the tangible impact it has on the world. I have already set up a dedicated linux development server and am currently exploring the openmrs-core repository.

I would love to get started by tackling some /dev/1 or beginner-friendly issues. Could anyone point me toward the current 2026 roadmap or a priority backend issue that aligns with my Spring Boot background?

Looking forward to learning and collaborating with you all!
