Welcome! Please introduce yourself

Hello everyone!

I’m Riya Jain from India, an MCA graduate with hands-on experience as a Java Developer intern and in building full-stack projects using React.js, Java, and Python. I’m interested in contributing to OpenMRS for GSoC and excited to explore the codebase, learn from mentors, and make meaningful contributions to the community!

Hi everyone :waving_hand: I’m Abdelmaseh, a backend engineer (Java / Spring Boot) starting to contribute to OpenMRS.

I’m currently in mandatory military service, so my internet and PC access is limited to short monthly holidays. During those windows, I work in focused bursts and prepare offline in between.

I’ve started setting up OpenMRS locally and looking for beginner-friendly issues where I can contribute steadily despite the constraints.

Looking forward to learning from the community and contributing where I can!

Hi everyone I’m Soham, a first-year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student I enjoy working with Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Django. Growing up around the healthcare space sparked my interest in building reliable digital health systems, which is what led me to OpenMRS. I’m new to open source, but I’ve started setting up the development environment and am currently exploring beginner-friendly issues around OpenMRS 3 and frontend modules. I’m excited to learn from the community and contribute consistently as I grow along the way

Hello everyone,

I’m a second-year B.Tech CSE student with a Java and Python background. I recently opened my first PR to OpenMRS (documentation) and would now like to start working on a beginner-friendly Java issue.

I’m especially interested in backend / core development and preparing for GSoC. I would appreciate guidance on a suitable starter task.

Thank you.

Hi I am Abdelmaseh Nabil, a Computer and systems engineering recent graduate. I am skilled at backend engineering with Java, and Spring boot. Also have strong foundation at React. I am looking forward to contribute to the OpenMRS project for GSOC 2026. I am currently at my military service. Due this I have constraints to internet access, and any PC. I will be available each month for 7 days. But I already installed and setup OpenMRS development environment. Can anyone guide me on how to contribute and work on “good first issues”

Hola!

I am Aarya, currently joined as a (reluctant) intern at Infosys. My tech stack here is in Java Springboot and React and thought, what better way to improve my skills than to contribute to open-source?!

Coming across OpenMRS seems like a wonderful project because I am a strong advocate of taking control off the corporations (they are SUCH money eating monsters dude). Healthcare specially.

Its really interesting to see the comprehensive amount of documentation and the ecosystem that exists within. And I LOVE chasing badges. All of them are mine!!! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I am personally eager to see how I can contribute to the community and maybe develop some good friendships (and skills) along the way!

Hello OpenMRS Community!

I’m Anish Jaiswal, a Java/Spring Boot developer with 1.4 years of professional experience. I’m new to open source and excited to contribute to OpenMRS while preparing for GSoC 2026.

Technical Background:

  • Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Hibernate/JPA
  • Experience with MySQL and building enterprise applications
  • Familiar with Git workflows and Agile development
  • I’m open to mentor suggestions based on my skill set!

Current Status:

  • Successfully set up OpenMRS development environment using Docker
  • Built and ran openmrs-core locally
  • Exploring the codebase to understand the architecture

Questions:

  1. Are there any beginner-friendly issues recommended for newcomers with Java/Spring experience?
  2. Which module would you suggest I explore first given my backend focus?
  3. Any tips for navigating the OpenMRS codebase effectively?

I’m committed to making meaningful contributions and learning from this amazing community. Looking forward to your guidance!
