Hi Michael,
I am a GP (family doctor) working in the UK with a keen interest in Health Informatics. I am originally from Sri Lanka and want to help some of my Sri Lankan medical colleagues to set up electronic health records for their day to day use. So I have a keen interest in open source EHRs and operating systems.
I also self taught how to write simple iOS apps and do that as a hobby (I have been tinkering my Sinclair, Commodore Amiga in my teenage years and now Windows, Macs and most recently Linux).
I have developed an iPhone app based on the local antibiotics guidelines and currently doing some research to see if the app makes the browsing easier compared to the currently available 40 page PDF! This is actually my dissertation project for the MSc in health informatics at the UCL.
I do not know if you would agree, but I think electronic health record software user interfaces are cluttered causing cognitive overload to the user. Medical professionals should get involved more in the process of UI design. UIs should be ‘dumbed down’ for the medics and context sensitive
I am looking forward to tinker with openMRS and to contribute to the project in what ever way I can.
Best wishes
Herath
