Implementation Specialist with OpenHMIS (Nairobi, Kenya)

Greetings All,

The OpenHMIS team is looking for candidates that have experience working with OpenMRS to fill a Implementation Specialist position on our team. The OpenHMIS project is creating hospital management features on top of OpenMRS and has already released a number of modules, including the Cashier and Inventory modules. We are a small team and this position will provide the opportunity to be involved in many different aspects of the project and so we are looking for qualified applicants who are “smart and get things done”.


  • Excellent written communication and relationship management skills
  • Good systems analysis and software design skills
  • Experience with MySQL, including SQL skills and database server administration
  • Experience with server setup and maintenance (including networking)
  • Experience in a health-care environment would be an asset
  • Experience developing software would be an asset
  • Experience with Spring, Hibernate, and HTML/CSS/JavaScript would be an asset


  • Pilot site implementation support
  • Manage the communication between the OpenHMIS team and our pilot sites and implementation partners.
  • Maintenance of existing software (i.e., debugging, additional features)
  • Maintenance of existing systems (including servers and networks)
  • Training, troubleshooting, and end-user support for installation sites
  • Design and implementation of solutions to support clinical data gathering and hospital management
  • Design and creation of required institutional reports
  • Gathering of requirements for new features from health-care administrators and other system users
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and will include health insurance and a housing allowance.
