GCI 2014 participant & mentor virtual meet-and-greet

Hi, my name is Toby. I live in Washington DC. I found out about Google Code-in when a mentor from copyleft games came to my school. I program robots at school (FRC), I’ve done some data visualization of ambulance response times recently as part of a project I’m working on with a friend to see how feasible it would be to link drones into the 911 service to deliver things like epi-pens, adrenaline, and other things to people in need so long ambulance response times don’t claim as many lives.

Hello!

I’m Danny from Australia, and I’ve been doing Google Code In for a few years (I was one of the 2012 winners actually). OpenMRS sounds like an interesting web application project, and I’ve been wanting to get my feet wet with Java.

I’m more familiar with JS / Node, HTML / CSS, etc. Looking forward to contributing!

@cshah: Wow! Say hi to Liezl for me?

Hi! I’m Steph, 15. This is my first year joining GCI

I’ll be focusing on UI and maybe some Android apps. Am somewhat confused about the coding parts… Also, what’s the average amount of tasks we should do? Is 10 a reasonable number?

Hello Everyone,

My name is Harsha Siriwardena, i mostly use harshadura as my cyber identity  My country is a beautiful south asian island called Sri Lanka. I work as a full time Software Engineer specialising enterprise mobile technologies. I also pursue a Masters in a part time basis.

And I have been contributing to OpenMRS project since 2012 where i also participated for two consecutive GSoC programs with OpenMRS. It was been a nice journey, i like the motto very much. “write code & save lives!” as coders which is a really possible way, isnt it?!

This is my second year in GCI, where I have participated as a GCI mentor at Fedora project in 2012.

Hi! I’m Zoe, 17 from Malaysia. This is my first time participating in Google Code In. Unfortunately in my school the computer classes only go up to Form 2 which is equivalent to grade 8 and after that we have no computer science or classes at all in government schools. I hope that GCI and Open MRS will broaden my grasp on technology and information as well as making a difference in the world.

Hi I’m Margeaux DeRaedt and I am 15 and from the USA. I am pretty new to coding, but I know HTML and CSS. I am currently learning JavaScript and Python. I am really excited to learn more from Google Code-in and complete new tasks! This is my first time participating in Google Code-in and I think it is great. I have been looking for different projects to get into technology, and this is perfect. Aside from coding, I enjoy playing guitar, ukelele, and bass. I love everything sci-fi, outer space, and adventurous. I also read like it’s my job.

Thank you for this great opportunity, I really look forward to meeting people in technology and getting started!

Hi everyone, I am Eddie Salvatierra from MD. I just found out about GCI and GSoC, so this is my first time around. I am learning Java in school for AP Computer Science this year, and am self-taught in a few other languages, like C. I joined this project because I want to learn some real-world programming experience and improve my skills. I am very interested in programming and am constantly trying to learn something new (currently that something is Perl). I also love fishing, kayaking, ice hockey, and I run track for my school. I hope to contribute a lot to this project, and I hope I can learn a lot from the experience.

Hello everyone! I’m Daniar Imanbayev, a 15 year old high school junior from Oregon. I don’t quite understand all these preliminary steps and git and stuff, but I have worked with similar things before. I’ve used Javascript, JQuery, and HTML to create a mobile website for a healthcare organization through an internship, but I want to try new things. I will be asking many questions

Hey Guys, I am Yashas. I am participating in Google Code In for the first time. I feel very lucky to have found OpenMRS and be a part of it. I am a student from India who is passionate about programming and learning more about computers…technology, etc.

Google Code In gives opportunity for young students to showcase their talent and at the same time help and contribute to Open Source projects. I was researching about OpenMRS to write a article. In the process, I learnt a lot aout it . . . how it helped people . . . . how developers from different countries work together as a community to develop OpenMRS. Now, I feel good to be part of the OpenMRS community. I am a Java programmer but not an expert. I am learning more in Java and I will definitely look forward to be an OpenMRS developer.

Some of my interests in technology are AI, Hacking and Cryptography (though I am a Newbie). I really like coding and developing apps and software and leaning more programming languages!!

A few people I know here are Harsha Siriwardena and Saptarshi Purkayastha. And thanks guys for helping me out on my first task!!:smile::smile:
